Lidija Khachatourian

Lidija Kostic Khachatourian embarked on an extraordinary journey as a passionate art collector. Her fascination with the diverse cultures and contemporary art of Africa ignited during her explorations of Sub-Saharan Africa. Lidija's deepening connection with the continent's artistic landscape led her to become a dedicated traveler, seeking out emerging talents and providing them with a platform for their creativity.

Today, Lidija's commitment to promoting contemporary African art shines through her founding of the AKKA Project. This visionary art gallery, initiated by her in Dubai in 2016 and later in Venice in 2019, is dedicated to nurturing African artists' growth through artist residencies and curated exhibitions. While art fairs have their place, AKKA Project's primary focus is fostering creativity and facilitating meaningful connections within the art community. Lidija's unwavering passion and tireless efforts continue to shape the global landscape of contemporary African art.

Beyond AKKA Project, Lidija actively collaborates with various entities to promote artists and contributes to publications. Her notable curated projects include "Africa & the Other 54 Countries," "African Identities," and the co-curated exhibition "Africa 1:1 LAB" at Ca' Pesaro, Venice, as well as "Lipiko" by Filipe Branquinho at MUSEC, Lugano. Additionally, she spearheaded "Inspiring Changes" by Mohamed Amin, a collaborative project with Salim Amin aimed at fostering educational interactions through the extensive photographic archive left by Mohamed Amin.

Lidija is deeply committed to recognizing and appreciating the rich diversity of African countries.

In 2019, Lidija curated the prestigious exhibition "The Past, the Present, and the In-Between" as the National Pavilion of Mozambique at the 58th Biennale Arte of Venice, showcasing exceptional artists such as Gonçalo Mabunda, Filipe Branquinho, and Mauro Pinto.

Her unwavering passion and tireless efforts continue to shape and elevate the global landscape of contemporary African art and culture.
